With the rapid expansion of knowledge and the development of new technologies, teaching is becoming an increasingly challenging profession. To enhance the quality of teaching and learning, teachers need to know how to use modern technology effectively in the classroom, and for this purpose training is required. While technologies are now easily available, it can be very difficult to integrate them effectively with pedagogy to produce better results in the teaching-learning process. Efforts should be made to build the capacity of teachers in ICT-pedagogy integration for improved teaching and learning. Bangladeshi teachers are now becoming more aware of this need and a few efforts have been initiated for training them, but the development of their awareness and the success rate of such programmes is low due to the lack of facilities and qualified trainers. This paper attempts to analyse the present situation in Bangladesh in order to identify the constraints on and possibilities for using ICT in the teaching profession.
